Fokus Deutsch

Tuesday, January 20th, 2015

I learned German in high school, and even got to do an exchange program with German students living with us for a month and I with them in Krefeld, Germany, the next month. That being the case, I never had to tackle German as an adult age beginner. (Why learn German as an adult? The same reason you should learn French and Italian too: so that you can enjoy Inglourious Basterds without subtitles.)

However, the Annenberg Project, which also made Destinos and French in Action, produced Fokus Deutsch. I never watched all the episodes, but whenever I have the need or desire to brush the dust off my German, I'll be going to this video series first to remaster it.

Something I really like about the series is that it has German subtittles throughout for all the dialogs. I find this very helpful to train the ear and learn the idiosyncrasies of German orthography.

They seem to have taken the videos off of the main website, but I found them all on YouTube:
